in 2010 I was falsly accused of being an "unfit" mother.

Years ago, if you told me I would end up in family court and be labeled an “…unfit mother that should lose custody of her children…” I would have replied with, “That only happens to women who are suicidal drug addicts. What could they possibly use against me, the fact that my children know the words to more than one song by The Pixies? I have nothing to worry about.”
Yet now, after experiencing the insanity of our family court system first hand, and reading every book and blog I could get my hands on, I know that every day this happens to mothers like me: mothers who have essentially raised their children on their own, mothers who have stable jobs that work with their children’s schedules, mothers who were in abusive relationships and are now remarried to wonderful men, mothers who are PTO Presidents and board members on various organizations. Everywhere, mothers whose idea of a wild night is two glasses of wine at a scrapbooking party are labeled “unfit”. |
"In an ideal world, parents might always seek to cultivate the bonds between grandparents and their grandchildren. Needless to say, however, our world is far from perfect, and in it the decision whether such an intergenerational relationship would be beneficial in any specific case is for the parent to make in the first instance."

In 2010 my parents petitioned for Court Ordered Grandparent Visitation. My lawyer attempted to have the case dismissed, being that my parents saw the children 3-4 times a month via my ex-husband, whom they sided with in our divorce.
The case was not dismissed, and my ex-husband then filed for a Custody Modification. The cases were Consolidated and a Lawyer for the Children was assigned. This blog is about what ensued after this.
It is also about what I have learned, after going to battle against three people who most likely suffer from Personality Disorders.
Finally, I share my thoughts and concerns regarding the current state of America's Family Court System.
